Where is Yosemite National Park Located?
Yosemite National Park is located in central California in the United States. The park, which covers an area of approximately 3,030 square kilometers, is located on the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains. The easiest way to get to the park by car is from San Francisco – the journey takes about 4 hours. There are many hotels, campsites, and parking lots on site. It is worth spending a few days in YNP and fully enjoying the attractions of the park. The park can also be reached by the YARTS bus (Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System).
Vegetation in Yosemite National Park
Much of the reserve consists of unspoiled areas that attract around three million tourists from all over the world each year. The park is famous, among others, for its redwoods (giant mammoths). The most famous redwood tree in Yosemite is called the Grizzly Giant. The tree is 65 meters tall and is estimated to be 2700 years old. The diameter of the Grizzly Giant is 9 meters. Although the size of redwoods is not as large as in the nearby Redwood National Park, they make a big impression on visitors. The tallest and oldest redwoods in Yosemite National Park, however, are in Mariposa Grove, a ‘grove’ located about 60 km south of the Yosemite Valley. In addition, there are eight species of pine in the park, California Cedar and Black Oak.
Animals in Yosemite National Park
The number of animal species inhabiting the California National Park is countless. It is estimated that there are over 400 species of vertebrates in the park. Many of them are endangered animals. Due to the diversity of the terrain, animals of many species can be found among the specimens. Among the most popular, it is certainly worth mentioning such animals as the grizzly bear, baribala, bobcat, California lynx, and the arachnid nutcracker.
Waterfalls in Yosemite National Park
In Yosemite, you can find many waterfalls flowing down from all the rocky slopes. The Yosemite Waterfall is the largest, 739 meters high. The Yosemite waterfall is a must-see when visiting the park. However, it is worth remembering that there are definitely more spectacular waterfalls in the park. The Nevada waterfall is also very impressive. Bridalveil Fall, on the other hand, is a 188-meter waterfall with a distinctive appearance. The stream of water falling from above is blown strongly by the wind, creating a mist.
Mountains in Yosemite National Park
Yosemite is part of the high Sierra Nevada range, whose peaks reach over 4,000. meters. The Yosemite Valley itself lies at an altitude of 1,200 meters and the first snowfall is usually recorded here in mid-November. It happens that September is already the month where white peaks can be seen from the valley level.
The most popular peak in Yosemite National Park is Half Dome. The Half Dome mountain is 2,694 meters high and has a beautiful, streamlined shape. The El Capitan (2307 meters high) is also recognizable. In turn, the highest peak in YosemiteNP are the peaks of Mount Lyell and Mount Dana – their height is 3980 meters. There are many peaks in the park, the height of which is over 3,500 meters.
Glacier Point – the best viewpoint in Yosemite National Park
Glacier Point is considered the best viewpoint in Yosemite National Park. The route to Glacier Point is only a few kilometers long and the elevation is about 2.2 km high. Glacier Point offers a beautiful panoramic view of the Yosemite Valley and most of its top attractions. From the vantage point, you can see, among others Half Dome and El Capitan Peak, and Yosemite Falls, etc.
